Railway bridge over the Salzach
Project description
The new 3-span bridge with new river pier locations was built on the site of the existing 5-span steel bridge. A 3rd track for local traffic was added. The narrowing of the Salzach during construction was proven by model tests at the Graz University of Technology and allowed construction phases in the river during the winter months. An architect was called in to design the bridge. The high design standards had to be implemented in the detailed plans. The deep foundations in the Salzach were made in the protection of stone dams, sheet pile pits and partly under the old bridge. Catch dams made of sheet piles in the WL area. Station entrances were integrated into the abutments.
